Captain Andy Rorex grew up in Winnemucca and is third-generation law enforcement in his family. His grandfather was a Sergeant in the Riverside Police Dept. and his father was with both the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office and the Winnemucca Police Dept.
Andy started his law enforcement career in 1995 with the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office and was a Patrol Sergeant and later went on to the Winnemucca Police Dept. Andy has a vast and varied amount of experience and training in a multitude of aspects of law enforcement. He has had training in Investigations, Drug Task Force Investigations and Homeland Security. He is a Range Master, an instructor for DARE and Active Shooter scenarios and also a Field Training Instructor and Hostage Negotiator. He has also had extensive training in SWAT, including being a SWAT Team Leader.
Andy holds Basic, Intermediate and Advanced POST (Peace Officers’ Standards and Training) certificates for the state of Nevada as well as being an active member of the National Tactical Officer Association.
In January of 2015, Andy left the Winnemucca Police Department to be promoted to Captain of the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office by Sheriff Mike Allen. Captain Rorex is in charge of overseeing the Detention Center, Central Control, Dispatch, Search and Rescue, SWAT and the Crisis Negotiation Unit.
Captain Rorex is proud to live in this community and help the people who reside here. He truly believes that his job doesn’t stop once he takes off the uniform.
